GREATER Western Sydney has confirmed co-captain Callan Ward has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, with the injury to sideline him for the remainder of the season.
The 29-year-old sustained the injury in a tackle by Geelong superstar Gary Ablett in the opening term of the Giants’ four-point triumph at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
“This is obviously devastating news for Callan who is a tremendous leader of our club,” said GWS football manager Wayne Campbell.
“His character and leadership of the club is highly valued and I have no doubt he’ll continue to play a very important role in the coming months.”
“As is the case with every player that suffers an injury, Callan has the full support of the club and the wider football community and we look forward to seeing him return to the field down the track.”
